It is a great pleasure for me to have a privilege of welcoming you to the Samsung International Symposium on Molecular Medicine.
Ten years ago, we started this symposium as an effort to open a new chapter on molecular medicine in Korea.
Until late 70's, molecular and cellular biology were considered "pure sciences". But, from 80's, intensive studies of human diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases have given immense insight into basic cellular and molecular mechanism, and at the same time, new knowledge of the molecular and cellular biology contributed tremendously to understand the pathobiology of complex human diseases.
Therefore, It is clear that the translational research of human diseases in terms of molecular and cellular biology became more and more important in the elucidation of the mechanism of human diseases and finding better diagnosis and treatments.
I hope that our symposium has been successful in the promotion of translational research in Korean biomedical society and in the meantime, I would like to promise that all research personnel of SBRI, including myself would strive to keep this symposium meaningful and worthwhile in terms of providing agora of sharing and gathering of ides in terms of translational research.
Thank you very much.

It is my great pleasure to present the 12th Samsung International Symposium on Molecular Medicine, focused on Molecular Imaging this year.
As continued efforts to create a new chapter on modern molecular medicine in Korea, we have prepared once again to exchange useful information and share the up-to-date knowledge in Molecular imaging. During the past several years there have been significant conceptual and experimental advances in Molecular Imaging. Consequently, this is a topic of importance to a broad spectrum of investigators and physicians pursuing biological regulatory mechanisms and treatment of human disease.
I hope this meeting will offer us to collaborate not only at the personal scientific level but also at the level of institutions from many countries.
On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to express my heartiest gratitude to the guest speakers invited from many countries and the audience who are enthusiastic enough to be here to share the up-to-date knowledge in Molecular imaging. I am confident that the scientific ideas discussed in this event will continue to grow further and be full-blown in the near future for the practical applications in medicine.
I hope each one of you will join to enjoy every moment of this wonderful seminar that the world-renowned scientists are going to give us. Thank you very much.
